Beijing Sidecars

My buddy, Brandon, spent 2006 in Beijing, China. While there he dated a popular Chinese television actress and scooted around the city and countryside in / on these beauties: (click to enlarge photos)

He has a mechanic on retainer to send him more batches if there is enough interest in the US. These were some shots of the first two, which are in US customs in Hawaii right now.

These are 2006 750cc Ural / BMW copies. They retail for about $2500 in China, are quickly upgraded for another $500 (12 v electric, paint, tires...) and can be shipped to the us, ready for registration, for about $5000 in total. They are registered as 1970 models to avoid custom duties. Pretty cool, huh? 70 mph top speed. Like a big go cart, he says. I'll have a turn on the black one this summer when I visit him in Maui, his new home.

How do you think the cost would differentiate with a larger purchase? Say 3 or more?

Shipping price goes down as quantity goes up, especially if you fill a whole container. But customs gets more difficult with 2 or more.

Bike with no sidecar is probably about $3500 in the US.
