Inner ear pain??

So I picked up a Scorpion Exo 400. The helmet felt snug but really comfortable in the store. Not as good as my Suomy, but close. I've used it mainly for commuting and have never had issues. I wore it on a ride over the weekend (~4 hours) and noticed my ears began to hurt near the end. By the time I got home I could barely take the helmet off, and my ears throbbed like no other. Touching the area surrounding me ear was excruciating. I assume it's a fitment issue, but is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future? Will going up a size in cheek pads help/relieve this?

My earlobe did not feel bent over but I'll give it another go.
