I am now browsing CL for a nice 4t

My wife and I agreed i can get a 4t now and get a 2t later on down the road.

Now on to the bike brand/model. Im a pretty big Honda/Yamah fan, but my friend had a 98 kx 250 that was absolutely sick. Fastest bike he had by far.

What do you think/recommend?

Well as soon as they started producing them as mx bikes they grew some , but I'd try to find the newest, lowest hour bike in your price range. Stay away from anything non aluminum frame, 04,05 Hondas had alot of valve problems, 04,05 kawis had valve and overheating problems and 04-06 suzukis are the same bike as the 04-05 kawi . As far as a yamaha goes I believe they never really had any years with particular problems but I believe they switched to a aluminum frame in 06. I really only have experience with kawasakis since I worked for them, but from what I've heard, yamahas seem to be the most bulletproof. Most of it just depends on how the bike was maintained and how many hours.

Here's another, seems to be a great deal at only $1,550 (price drop 2 hours ago). It's an '06 Kawi so outside of the problems 2slow mentioned. I've never bought a bad bike from an established TWT member.

2006 KX250f

Hey man you never know, I remember seeing a couple ads where people were looking to trade for a car/truck. a friend of mine had a guy willing to trade him a yz250f for his wedding bands from his last marriage. Lol the guy backed out at the last minute.. Probably found out they had an evil curse on them.

Id opt for a 4 stroke if you are hitting trails and some track. The new 4strokes are killer. Im partial to the honda dirt bikes....
What would you recommend? Make/Model/year range

I think everything has already been covered in this thread. Either way, 2 stroke or 4 stroke will be a ton of fun and will not dissapoint. If you got into MX racing, a 4 stroke will give you the advantage over a 2 stroke now a days but you really can't go wrong with either if you are buying the bike for all around fun.

I agree man, i have been watching alot of youtube videos and every MX vid i see are majority 4t and a few 2t. You can watch the 4t slow to basically a stop and still have rediculous power where as the 2t has to get back into the powerband, Like i said i have quite a few bikes to go see this week. so far its....
06 YZ250f, 07 yz250, 06 CR250, 01 CR250, and an 06 CR250f. We will see how it goes!

If i do buy a bike this week would anyone possibly be interested in riding this weekend? will be my first time on a dirt bike bigger than a 50 in a pretty long time.

I love my 06, really no complaints, only bike I'd rather have is a brand new kx250f. A few of us should be riding somewhere Sunday and your welcome to come if you have ur bike by then.

Go to woods races and you'll see the opposite.

Generally speaking...

1) MX rules favor 4t bikes now, so that's what you'll see there.

2) For tight woods/technical enduro racing and harescrambles, you'll see a sea of 2t bikes out there and the overwhelming majority of the top finishers will be on 2t bikes. If you look up the recent results of the hardest harescramble in the world (Erzberg Enduro) top 10 finishers were all on 2t bikes. 7 KTM 300s, 1 KTM 250, 1 Husaberg 300 and 1 Gas GAS 300.

3) Desert racing, you'll see 4t bikes outnumber 2t heavily due to the long open WFO sections and the 4t bikes are much better for that.
