Stupid gear questions

Anyone ever have people ask you what your gear is for?

When gearing up, I am constantly being asked what my knee/shin gaurds are for (from people who know I am on a motorcycle).

Ummmm...
"For when I wreck..."
"I'm going to a soccer game after this..."
"It's like a helmet, but for my knee caps..."

wtf? Isn't it obvious what gear is for?

I mean, if I saw someone putting on a cup, a mouthgaurd, or some other random protection, I'd kind of assume it was protection. Might seem a little odd... but the purpose is pretty obvious.

Not very often, but I do get the "Aren't you hot?" or "be careful" a lot.

When I used to ride my street bike everyday I would take the sliders off my boots and they would ALMOST pass for work shoes. Even in slacks. Then I started keeping extra shoes at work cuz I got tired of 20 questions. It's usually just easier to ignore stupid things.

There are no stupid questions - the non-riders just don't understand. They think the gear is just for racers and that motorcycles are dangerous to even look at, let alone ride.

Maybe they are just curious or are trying to make conversation and don't know how to break the ice. Most people do it by asking questions about stuff they think you're interested in.

........or they could just be ignorant!
