Cool Official Hill Country Trip - July 20-22 - Three Sisters Loop

Who: Intermediate-Experienced riders

When: Fri-Sun July 20-22

Where: Houston to Kerrville, Tx...and beyond

Route: The best roads in Texas
I will lead as I am very familiar with the roads.

Basic details: Prep bikes to be put on trailers Thurs. night.
Trailering bikes Fri. mid-afternoon or ASAP. Don't want to leave too late.
Arrive Fri. night, set up tents and get rest!
Meet early morning, eat breakfast, gas up, and ride all day Saturday (w/lunch break, photo ops, and possibly river swims)
Ride 1/2 day or more Sunday depending on group consensus.
Drive back Sunday.
I have a truck that seats 6, also has a camper top. I plan on borrowing a trailer, or renting one if it comes down to it.

Advanced Details: I plan to stay at "On the River RV park and Campground"
Check out the site for yourself, I think it would be fun and very affordable to stay there and camp.
They have a pool, and bathrooms with showers. Por-A-Cans are located near the camp sites as well.
It would be best to know how many people would be interested in camping so I can make the reservations sooner than later....

http://www.bytheriver.com/index.html

I personally have my own camping gear. Tent, cot, and sleeping bag.
Tent's can be bought at Academy for as low as $20.
You can sleep on a cot, air mattress, or whatever you prefer.

If folks don't have camping gear already or don't want to get any, there are hotels and resorts available in the area for you to stay at.
Obviously, we will have a morning meet spot for the ride Saturday in that case.

Minimum Gear Requirements: Full face helmet, armored moto jacket, gloves, long pants, and boots. HIGHLY recommended that you wear knee pads and or lower body armor suit if you will be riding in jeans.
BRING LICENSE, and current insurance. ICE cards are a good idea too.

Bike requirements: Most importantly, make sure your bike is properly maintained and functioning with no issues. Last thing we want is to all be standing on the side of the road in the heat. Make sure your tires are in good shape with plenty of center tread. These roads can eat through tires....
I'll bring some basic tools along with my motorcycle stands just in case.

This is a lot of information to cover and I'm sure I missed a few things...I will reserve the next two posts to include any updates and or further explanations of details to help keep the information together.

2:45 PM Tuesday July 17th...

I called and booked our camping reservations at "By The River RV Park" I asked them as many questions as I could, so there shouldn't be any surprises.

We have a whole site camp site reserved so if anyone decides that they want to join us, all you have to do is show up with all your stuff.

That's fine. If you guys want to wait to do the trip, I'm sure another one will be planned later, but that can be discussed in another thread cause I will be riding the 3 Twisted sisters July 20-22

The group I tour with does one ride in the Fall and one in the Spring. Last ride was to the 3sisters, this Fall we are planning on Arkansas. No trailer queens.

Summer is just too hot around here for touring. Good luck and have fun. Drink plenty of fluids.

Ha, yea...I did say "very soon" in the first thread. I guess a bit sooner than most expected. These plans came together really quick but it's all good. I'd be happy if we get a group of 5 people. I never expected this to be a big ride. Small groups are always better anyways

Cool deal. We'll be camping, it's only $9 a night and we'll have access to bathrooms with hot showers. If its easier for you to stay with your folks, then by all means do it.

I definately want to make a trip out there....going to think hard about this one.

Approximately how long is a "loop" , and back to camp? About 210 miles, or so?

Im not sure how many miles we'll be doing yet. I have to plan the route in the next few days. We may skip CR336 because I don't remember it being all that great...
