that is not the topic here, nor was it the problem mentioned...
i was feeling dehydrated and was drinking water and gatoraide... the other things mentioned including the pedialyte were to be taken in addition to water, not instead of water... so i don't figure think you are hydrated when you are not would come into it... the placebo effect i had in mind was that if feeling dehydration were all in my mind and not a reality... and then adding the nasty made the false feeling of dehydration go away, then it worked whether or not i physically needed it or not....

Coconut water has the same ratio of sugar and salts as pedialyte but fresh ones aren't available here. The downside is the cholesterol. The cans aren't that good if you have had fresh coconuts before. In Central America that is a popular side of the road drink and are everywhere. Used to drink a bunch on long off road rides. Great with rum too - Coco Loco

They sell fresh coco frio roadside all over Houston.

Have you tried the orange? I've found it to be the least taste-offensive. I've had it several times after coming back from the hospital for surgery, or after being sick and it really does work well, just not the easiest stuff to choke down. I didn't like the grape either, too syrupy / salty.
