Looking for a used sport touring bike

One of my buddies is looking for a used sport touring bike for his first bike. Somthing that would be a good, reliable, easy to learn on and most of all inexpensive bike...

You said first bike right?
Does he have any riding experience, dirt or otherwise?

Most "Sport Touring" bikes are large, powerful and least of all inexpensive.

A V-Strom 650, FZ6 or SV650 sort of fall into the category, but I'm cautious to recommend them as a first bike without some more info.

A friend of my brother had a new Roadliner for his 1st bike and laid it over - claimed a car ran him off the road... Yeah right..
Bike was too big for him

Just let me know what you want to know. Bike is in good condition except for rear grab bar from a cargo net being strapped to it by the previous owner. Other than that solid bike.
