Not to be the bearer of bad news... but if you can't afford to pay cash for a 3k bike then you probably can't afford riding yet. Gear alone is going to cost you between 500-800 bucks FYI.

As mentioned, buy a used bike for 1500 CASH, learn how to ride, enjoy, and sell it for what you paid for it.

I think he has his gear, but is short on funds for the bike...either way, I'd wait until money is a bit less of an issue, then buy a cheap 250 and go from there

Patrick s right. Get your bike checked over esp if you buy it on craigslist. I actually went to Motorcycles Unlimited myself, hah.

I think even if money is an issue and you want to start on this hobby, Do it. Theres plenty of ppl who dont have 3k let alone 300 dollars laying around.
If you saved enough for gear and now onto the bike, youre on the right track, I think. Everyone has a budget.

Honestly, I bought my bike for 1800 and sold it for 2250. You will get just about all your money back.

Thanks for all the advice guys; I really appreciate the help. I will just have to cool my jets and be patient.

Thanks Patrick, once I have picked out a bike I'll stop by before I purchase it. Now, it's just a waiting game for me.

I stumbled upon this bike on craigslist : http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/3120504573.html

I had a short conversation with the guy: Click image for larger version

I would like to know what work might be needed to be done if the bike is not getting a spark.

Keep in mind new tires are $250-300 off the bat...plus whatever it costs to diagnose and get a spark. THE fact the bike isn't rideable in current form could mean there are other problems.

Stick with finding a $250 for under $2000...then you sell for the same price when ready to move up.

Did you contact the guy with the $1600 250 ninja

Yes, I talked to the guy with 250 classified here. I just wanted more options just in case if sold. I am arranging to meet with him soon. Highway wise, is the 07 250 capability up to par?

Definately not a SV650. I4, single exhaust would point to CBR 600.

No spark can be alot of things. Could be as simple as a safety switch (I don't know the CBR's electrical diagram). Or as bad as a new ECU = $$$.

I went on the group ride up to the NW yesterday. More than one person should be able to tell you that my ninja 250 did just fine.

If it's the silver 2005 that you're talking about. I'd offer $1500 and accept up to $1600.

$1800 is a little steep for a pregen.

I am going to look at this bike next week and possible get checked at Motorcycles Unlimited:
http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/3138003328.html do you think $2,200 is reasonable.

I also checked this bike as well, but it has a salvage title. Resale value would suck if I had to sell it. http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/3141787327.html $2,300

Try and get the SV650, the resale on those is alot better than the FZ6. Plus you can put a yoshi slip-on exhaust on that bad boy and its going to sound mean as !
