Great write up, i just thought I knew how to ride a bike for 20 yrs untill I hit the track.

The track has filled an excitement that I have been looking for as an adrenaline junkie and met some of my closet friends now.

I think the track gives you tools and teaches you how to use them better.

it can't change your mindset or your situational awarness

i went to the track to learn to ride my bike better, not to be better then the next guy, and have fun.

the track my not in itself be able to change your mindset or situational awareness, but i do believe that the experience you get at the track will give you the opportunity to do so, and at a much faster pace than street riding and in a more controlled and safer environment....I did not say safe, just safer.

Hope this is not a thread jack.

I've been trying to get to a td to watch and see about trying it. I believe I would like it and then sell my bike for a track only bike. Streets worry me more and more plus I like to go too fast. So the question I have is what does it cost to do track days? Not the fee for the day but all the other stuff. Anyone really put it on paper before? How many days on tires and how much to replace? Gear wear and tear? Bike maintenance?

Actually we have a few threads that discuss the roundabout overall costs.
Trailering/hauling your bike to track ~amount of gas spent to get there or you could find someone that's willing to haul it there for you.
Gas for your bike
food and water
a sun shade/chairs
tire warmers if you choose
race tires
fixing up your bike to make it track ready
Just in case fund in case you wreck a lot.

The track has taught me how to react faster in situations without tensing up which has been helpful commuting on the roads. Granted I haven't done much of track days though. I really just go to them to be able to hang out with friends and ride fast without getting a ticket. I ride a lot on the roads as it is so removing any unknowns is always fun in my books.

I think the track does help contribute to knowing how to get yourself out of hairy situations on the public roads. I can agree with most, I have lost my desire to ride on the street. Perhaps that because I paid a $1000 in fines this year and am tired of being harassed by the cops? Who knows!

I thought I was fast, until my first on track experience. I figured out then that I was just dangerous, not fast.

well, with all the expense involved, track is not worth it,
but i got tired of burning all my money in the back yard and figured I should find another way to dispose of it.
