Squid - you're welcome to join us, we are all about safety first, it'll be a great chance for you to get more climated into the sport bike world

Valentina - id love to tell you we run 50 but 90% of the time we're doing the PSL (posted speed limit) if you'd like to come to the meet and give it a try maybe one rider can guide you and accompany you through the route
You could also ride 2up with one of our safe experienced riders, who knows maybe if you're lucky you could even drive!

Valentina,

I think scooter is kinda streach for this ride. Not ony the speed, but the lenght of the ride. I would recommend you join the ride whenever you can get a bike 250cc plus, although many of my fellow male species would want to drag you out anyway possible! Kekeke!

That's good to hear.

But, I completely understand wanting a core of like minded and leveled riders. I assume those are organized privately among people who already have experience with each other.

My issue is I'm learning the bike, still inching it over trying to learn my comfort zone on the corners. And to stop looking for that 7th gear.

Speaking of gears, my Softail came with a 5-speed in 05, but when I did all the engine work I was suddenly on a 100HP bike that needed to relax at the top end. So I "invested" in a Baker DD1 Tranny. That was just what it needed.

I don't ever see myself becoming a "track" guy. I'm more about the lonesome highway ride, and of course PIE! Who doesn't love Pie ?

Thanks Lucar. I have a full cover helmet, and padded mesh jacket and boots, but I'm still working on what type of protective pants to wear, so I'll be in jeans.

I'm doing the Dragon, Tennessee and North Carolina Ride in late August, I will be suited up properly by then.

Valentina ... when I moved to MidTown, I bought a Yamaha 400cc Majesty scooter from a friend. I loved that scooter, my Harley has a cover on it because of that scooter.

Yamaha Majesty 400 15846

I rode it all over because I never have to worry about parking on it (if you know MidTown you can imagine how much of a benefit that is).

The fact it was a 400 meant those little tiny tires could go 80 mph or more, and it was steady as rock, even next to 18-wheelers.

But, I traded it in for this new Ninja. Mainly because I had always wanted to move towards Sport Bikes. I didn't make the full commitment with this Ninja, but it will suit my needs as I train up and decide if I want more muscle between my legs.

And plus, this baby is much sexier

2012 kawasaki ninja 650 7 600x0w

I do miss my storage under the seat, but that's just about it.

I've owned and ridden MCs for 40 of my 48 years, but just last week I bought an 2012 Ninja 650. This would be a great help in getting me closer to my 600 miles for the first maintenance.

I'm a Harley guy, but I'm also a little guy, and wanted to get a 400-pound bike for times when I don't want to ride an 800 pounder.

I'm assuming you guys ride in formation, staggered just like the rides we do on Harleys. When I lead rides I always prep my rides with no staggered riding when the roads get curvy - single file only.

If this is similar, then I'm certainly not a Noob. But, I am a Noob to leaning over my gas tank (all the time)

If I join, put me towards the back, and if I see I'm mismatched for cornering speeds, etc., I'll just drop out of formation and find my way home.

But, you gotta start somewhere, so I hope this is a good place for me to get acclimated to the group.

PS: My nickname Squid is because of my 9 years in the Navy. A Marine tagged me with it in a motorcycle group I used to ride with. In the Harley world, you don't get to make up your own nicknames, they tend to get assigned to you. I get what it means in the Sport Bike world. I've asked Admin to change me to the name I use on other Boards: ExNavyInHouston ... I've actually embraced the name and have personalized plates on my Deluxe that say Skwid
Squid,

I would like to ride with you and lead you until you feel comfortable with your new bike. However, with that many years experience riding two wheels, you wouldnt have any problem. I just feel i should cover those who covered our by serving the country. And as far as the formation and other detail about the ride, it is exactly the same as the way you used to ride with the cruisers. And to add, we never leave any rider behind. You'll never have to feel like tearing off. That's why we have a sweeper. Especially a good one this time, Rykoson is not only a great person and rider, he is also an instructor for Ridesmart track days. You should never hesitate to ask anything to any of us...SIR!!
