With that said, on the last ride, the two group format worked fine. I think the slower group left 5-10 minutes after the fast group left.
Yeah I led the fast group. It worked out great. with that being said. I regret not pushing for a split group on yesterdays ride. I think the group was too big. I am not saying it wouldn't have changed Lucky's fate but then who knows? I hated the idea of one large mass taking corners.

All the group rides that I have lead and splitting up the groups some of the people are afraid to speak up and not be totally honest on what their riding skill is. You never can tell. So when you have a fast group and a noob is in that group without saying anything (which has happened on my rides several times) some guy takes a corner and goes down. I do feel bad about and of course I get angry about it. Not that rider went down but that the rider is hurt. It's just something that has to be dealt with and with every meeting and the riders such as Bevo, Lucar, Jimrad, we always make it a point to place the noobs in a proper spot and that they need to be honest & speak up. I enjoy leading the groups or helping when I can.

On another note when we exited 290 for 362 I should have stopped the ride right then. I saw the rain and it was everywhere. That I can take the blame. I felt some pressure. Had so many riders and they came from afar and I didn't want to let anyone down. So I regret not making that decision and it still bothers me a bit. If I made that decision Lucky would not have gone down. Whether it was a wet spot on the corner, or target fixation. Whatever it was I still feel bad and for that I am sorry. I felt like I was responsible.

And Lucar...it's your fault I didn't get any pie.....just sayin....

so before you go by blaming people (and this I shall consult with the douche king) it's all on you to blame, we were supposed to cage it down there, and it didn't happened either. tonight, i'm sleeping with the dog

Dave and I came from the farthest away and would have understood stopping for the safety of everyone, so don't think otherwise.

As far as having read every thing on this thread.........

1.) happens
2.) Group rides are inherently dangerous, egos, ability, and other flaws are magnified
3.) The need for riders to admit when they have little to no group ride experience is a must, believe it or not other people are trusting their safety to total strangers
4.) Blame/responsibility and whatnot can go anywhere.....see #1
5.) We all learn every time we ride. Whether in a group or to the store for a drink. In the event that something goes wrong we can all learn for it, noob or not

Communication is key both verbal before and non-verbal during. It is the responsibility of the experienced rider to communicate with people unfamiliar to group riding and or the plan for the specific ride to ensure that people of all levels can feel safe and everyone can make it home in one piece.

EMT,
that is the best reply I have read all day.

I like everyone else am pleased that Luckydevil walked away because this is simply a dangerous sport.
Everyone is one small issue away from a big problem at any moment on the back of a sportbike.

I quit counting how many near death experiences I have had on the back of a bike both from my own doing and external factors (buzzard nearly decapitating me, cars, road hazards, dog running into my lane...)
Oh yeah, I quit counting

I wish there was a way for "check out rides." Squid will know because he's a fellow diver, but some SCUBA diving operations (especially where there can be adverse conditions) make you do a check out dive to basically prove that you have the skills you claimed.
Scuba is alot differant than Surface supplied underwater construction. Lol. Poser!
