I remember when last year's accident happened, my first thoughts were.... The starting point is just off the freeway, hit the straights for a good 20 mins, turn then take a another straight. You're in autopilot by this time... and then your first curve at 70mph and your mind is still asleep at the wheel.

Straight, straight, straight... first turn and bam. Just my opinion.

When we went, Longdraw was doing an excellent job leading. There was definitely no "competition" going on.

Always a good practice to take it easy on a route you have never rode before. Learn it, try to memorize it, and then pick up the pace as you see fit. A lot of times you can judge a turn by the suggested turn speed sign, but those decreasing radius turns can bite you in the . THAT is why you need to be familiar with a route/road. Leaving the ego at home helps too.

If you are a seasoned rider with a few trackdays under your belt, you can probably get away with following one of your buddies that is familiar with the route.

Most likely whether lucky likes it or not, it was a blessing in disguise. If we went further in that big group and it started to get a little slick, it coulve been game over for a non noob.

Wrong, use just enough throttle to keep slack out of the chain and apply more pressure to the bars.

It's because it's the first nice sweeper and the riders that are familiar with it, hit it hard, and the ones that are not, panic and go off.

I've ran those sweepers at least 100 times going both ways. I now know them like the back of my hands. I started doing them at 60 mph and slowly increased my speed and can now take them (depending on conditions) at 75-80 mph. But being the noob that I am, I think I'm at the limit of my comfort zone at those speeds.

I need to do some track days! (..and will as soon as the right bike comes along!)

The left hand sweeper is not a decreasing radius turn, it's not even a 90 degree turn.

But, it is a blind corner going both ways! That may have something do with people "losing it" in the corner! IMHO!

From my experience on this turn in group rides when someone has crashed it's from noobs feeling safe by being in a group. At double the posted recommended speed for this turn you can see far enough into it to easily make it though if you stay off the brakes and steer.

You're probably right, but I still get the "Pucker Factor" when I going around this or any blind corner and Joe Bob Billy, in his 1 ton dually pulling a horse trailer, is barrelling around the same corner, going the opposite way at 80 MPH!
