Honda of Houston...hurting for business?

Went in there earlier this week just to look around, and what used to be a huge, busy store full of bikes looks more like a dying clothing store. What few bikes and quads they have are crammed into the front third of the store, and all the gear and clothing is spread throughout the rest, including the big showroom floor in the back. ....

Might have moved most of the years inventory since its summer time, but I doubt that.

there is a warehouse right next to the service department. That is where they keep used bikes for sale and some bikes to service.

I was just there last week and most of the new models are there on the floor, including the new 2012 VFR1200 - the first local dealer I saw one of those. They had next to no used bikes though, but I see that with quite a few dealers in town. May be a lot of them were bought with tax refund money. I am sure that's how my S83 got sold last month.

I would like to hear from someone who is in sales state how moto sales are faring about now compared to previous years ?
I would like to purchase another bike in a year or two without having to trade or sell my current bike.

new bike sales have been hammered worldwide by the recession ... there is a healthy used market which is a buyers market due to economic situtation ... I figure most of the folks who have the dough to buy a bike brand new will either get the more exotic liter bikes RSV4 / Duc / BMW ... I would guess the zx-10r and the R1 are the top selling BRAND NEW bikes then starter bikes like ninja 250 ... economy is such that most companies are selling us the same bikes they made 4-5 years ago ... very little redesign, styling, invovation etc. basically just cycling thru excess inventory at this point ...

Hmmm... i was there about 2 weeks ago.... looked the same as it did April of 2011. Motos in the front area and gear/accessories in the back is all I've seen.
Only used bikes I've seen were parked out front... about 6 now compared to ~12 last year.

Folks I know at Mancuso & Republic HD say it's going pretty well. Is OP referring to the honda place at 290 near West? If so I've been there twice and the people at the front counter acted like they could give a fck less that I had walked in.

That's the place.
They always say hi, but don't pester me at the front door.
Usually get asked once maybe twice if i need any help while browsing the gear stuff.

They did offer one of the best deals (without any haggling) when I was buying my bike.... but I went with 2 years older and pre-dropped for less money than their mint condition bike.

I live just up the road. I go there from time to time. Place hasn't changed much since I bought my VFR there 2 years ago. They say hi and one sales guy asks me if I need help and then they leave me alone.

i have bought bikes from at least 6 different dealerships in Houston and have not found too much overall difference... all were helpful and each gave me the best deal they could at the time.... that said i have never been in the store the op is asking about...nothing against them at all, it has just not been convenient for me to go there.
if there were not dealers who sell the same thing that they do closer to me i would go there.

I went there to buy my motorcycle gear(gloves, jacket, helmet). Not a bad place for gear. They have very competitive prices.

Bought my first bike there, our third bike there, a generator, and a Kendon trailer. Quite a bit of gear as well. If they don't have it, they can order it. About the only issue I can think of is that they seem pretty shorthanded at times, especially on weekends. But I like it that they don't pester you. A "Hi" when you walk in, a "can I help you" just once or twice, and then leave me be. Just like I like it. Of course as often as I've been there over the years, half the store knows me by name. Took a demo ride on a Gold Wing one time just to see what it was like. I asked how long I could be gone on it and was told just to be back by closing.
