I noticed riders of all stripes tend to wave on secondary (mostly 2-lane) roads out in the country. In town and on freeways, not so much.

I still wave in town, but only if I am on narrower streets where you can easily see each other. I don't bother any more on these 8-12 lane divided freeways.

Don't get hurt if someone doesnt wave. Sometimes its not viable to do:

If you're at a light and someone waves to you while riding by, I'm not gonna release my clutch and stall out.

Sometimes youre in the middle of shifting and just can't wave.

However if youre on a scooter you have no reason not to wave.

Also when in traffic, i usually got my eyes peeled to the road and cars in front of me and not the other lane, i miss a wave here and there.

Also if you can't wave mid turn in the twisties you have no skillz and should not be riding motorcycles.

I wave to everyone but have also noticed most Harley riders don't wave back.

If the harley rider is wearing a lid, he is not like most harley riders so he gets a wave.

If i come up on slower riders and they move to the right so i can pass in the same lane i always acknowledge as i go by. The waving all the time, i think is stupid but if someone waves im not gonna be a , its just part of the deal.

Truth! When I rode around the amazing roads in Arkansas with my FZ6 with tour luggage on it, HD riders wouldn't wave if there were more than 2. One on one sure. I was at a gas station fueling up and a couple of guys on HDs rode up and one started talking to me. I asked him about this and he laughed. He said "Yeah, HD guys are , we also trailered our sport bikes out here and they dont wave to us when we ride them and we dont wave when we ride our HDs".

I try to wave when the situation permits it but i do feel like a when i am not able to wave back. The only cruiser riders i really ever get to wave back are the ones with full/half face helmets on.

Wave to all riders if convenient, only a few solo HD riders haven't waved back....

Maybe you suck at waving?

I wave to all bikers/riders. Anything on 2 wheels really. I even wave to scooters/mopeds.

On-coming traffic, even if it's on the other side of the freeway. I had a guy flash his brights at me, he was on the opposite side of the freeway going the other direction.

Especially when you're sitting at a stoplight so you don't stall...

I wave at every bike I get a chance to, and turn it to the bird if I'm ignored ( unless it's obvious a safety issue, where both hands are required on the handlebars, and then usually I'll nod )
