What's Worse than a Blown Engine...

...Having it happen 4,000 miles from home!

I'm in the middle of a Canadian/Alaska adventure on my klr650 and right after crossing the border in the middle of nowhere my engine seized at 60 mph on a dirt road. Hitchiked with a couple awesome people to Fairbanks and one even let us sleep in his huge workshop after taking half the bike apart.

I'm in Fairbanks now try to get things sorted and possibly buy another bike. Things are freaking expensive here but still having a good time.

I can ship you a complete engine. Then when you get home you can pick up the rest of the bike for $1500, lol.

Shipping is $1,140 after its crated so that ain't happening. There was gas in the oil and my only theory was the choke cable pulled too tight when I installed bar risers a few weeks ago.

I'm trying to line up a garage to tear it down today before the shop mechanic gets to it tomorrow.

I looked at a clean 81 goldwing that I might buy to ride home. Lol.

I know, but that shlts probably $500 to ship to Fairbanks to get it here in a couple days so i can install it and get on the road to make it back to work by the 9th.

If I didn't have to be back I'd just hang out here. People are badass.

People here really are awesome. I got a ride with a gold miner 200 miles to his house where fed us, gave us beer and let us tear the bike down in his garage and sleep in there. Then he drove us to a gas station on the side of town going to Fairbanks and I got a ride the last 100 miles with a guy and I gave him every dollar in my wallet. It cost me $26 to get my broken bike 300 miles.

I've also got like 4 offers of couches to crash on. They rock.

Just a thought...
Maybe the cheapest way would be an airline ticket home.
I know it lacks adventure but... just saying.

That's an option and is what I was going to do at first. I'd rather buy a bike and finish the trip. I don't want to give up after rising 2,300 miles to get here. (trailed to top of Idaho)
