Interesting discussion. I bought my first bike (1968 Honda MT 50) with money I earned working as a janitor and soda jerk. Pay was eighty cents/hour. I also worked odd jobs to save even more. That MT cost about $200 if I recall right, so I saved for over a year. Nothing beats the satisfaction of hard work and enjoying the fruits of one's own labor.

You know, there are a hundred different ways someone could go about owning their first motorcycle that are far better than what we saw, the online version of "Homeless Hungry Please Help Thanks Bless".

This thread is epic just for the audacity of the OP. Is Solracer's brother a troll?

I think this could have been approached as "Help a fellow become a new rider", looking for a donated old/dented/wrecked bike, spare parts, mechanic advice... I mean, the motorcycle community will get behind something like that, but if you think bikers are into a self serving charity type thing, just looking to throw money at an able-bodied person, well... You probably won't fit in with the biker world.

And if you disagree with me, that's cool too, since I also have a self serving charity. I am the President, CEO and Treasurer of the LCLF Brain Beer and Titty Bar foundation, to help me get dollars for single moms, PM me for details on how to contribute. It's all about the kids!

Wow...
I'm reading this after my last 10 hour shift of the week and 39 hours without sleep so I may be a little bit cranky... but are you kidding me? I can guarantee that any extra dollars I have laying around will be going to cure cancer or childhood MS or something honorable. What have you done to deserve such charity? So you WANT something? That's it? Big deal. I get a ride if I give you $500? Thanks... I haven't laughed like that since I was a little girl. My girlfriends first bike was a 250 that we bought out of a field for $100 and scrapped together with parts off ebay including an engine. Spray can blue and yellow. Took months to get it ready to ride. But she loved and appreciated it and because of her hard work and patience, she DESERVED it. And she rode the holy out of it long after she was ready to move up because we couldnt afford a NEW BIKE. But sure... you can just have one. This "sumthin for nuthin" makes me sick. I have more respect for people who win the lottery. At least they had to come up with thier own dollar.

Solracer should do some brotherly love and kick his bro in the nutz and tell him to man up.

and as commonplace for us old foggeys, i agree w/ OBED.

If you're gonna "go out and do something like this"???? You're doing NOTHING!

I have an 06 EX250 in the garage right now that isnt being used. With a different attitude, who knows... but there is something seriously wrong with your value system if you think there's nothing wrong with gaining purely at other peoples expense. Why not go big? Better question... why do you deserve to go at all? Work harder dude. Sacrifice something. Figure it out. Dont just give up and beg. .

just makes you look worse

why not get rid of your i-net payment and use that towards saving for your bike

and go mow a yard or 2 or however many you need to get a bike.

really patethetic and even worse that your own bro would let you make a entire fool of yourself.

I bought my first bike for $200. It was over 20 years ago and was a 79 GS 425E. But I worked to get the money and it was mine (Mom and Dad said if I wanted to bike I had to get it myself). If you want it bad enough you will find a way to EARN the money!

FYI - if you're truly doing it to save gas, and are willing to make the commitment to ride near daily, the fuel savings will offset the cost of a new or close to new bike. The insurance may rip you apart though depending upon your age and the type of bike.

I'd recommend a cruiser like the Boulevard S40 if you want good mileage, cheap and low insurance costs.
