If the fan is coming on but the engine isn't cooling down the water may not be circulating properly.
I know you just had a chain break and get jammed up in the case, did it bend/dent the water pump housing not allowing the impeller to turn?
Did you have to remove the water pump to get the chain out?
Did you reinstall it properly into it's drive?
If you drained the cooling system did you burp it afterwards to expel all of the air?
From the symptoms of it overheating and the coolant level rising in the bottle it sounds like there's no circulation, I'd check the water pump.

That is what happened to my old 600 f2 when the chain popped. The water pump got farked. Then found cracks around the housing and the water pump itself. Ended up having to get another motor before it was all done.
