TX insurance premiums are outrageous!

Just moved from GA to TX. With shopping around, the cheapest premium for identical coverage that I had in GA was over 2X in TX (<$1K annually in GA, vs >$2K in TX). Finally called the local County Tax Office and asked if I could register/ride my bike with a Georgia Insurance Policy Card that showed my TX address (which it currently does). The answer was "yes", as long as I meet TX state minimums for coverage (which was easy, as they're low). So, bottom line, saved myself a ton of of money by not changing a thing - and sticking with a GA Policy Card.

Interesting side note: my insurance company wanted more than 2X my GA premium for the privilege of issuing me a Texas Insurance Policy Card - with identical coverage for the identical bike/rider and identical TX address. Looks like there's something fishy going on here - either that, or we should all buy out-of-state policies to save money!

It's by county in Texas, there's not a state wide rate. Harris and Ft. Bend are high

Shouldn't be an issue come claim time - as the policy card shows my correct address, and it's a national insurance company. Now, I have no idea what a cop may say when s/he sees the card, but according to the State it's all "legal" so I'll take it one step at a time...

I'm in Montgomery County. The boonies (Woodlands). If Harris is higher than Montgomery, I'm glad I'm not more central.

Strangely enough... my insurance went down by like 5 buck when I changed it from Jasper County to Harris County...

Houston suburbs are high as well. I wonder how long your insurance company will let you get away with insuring a vehicle that's kept at a Texas address under GA rates. They may figure it out eventually

I mean I had already gotten my rate reduction for turning 25 8 months prior. This was last month and my bday is not for another 3 weeks.

not sure what bike you are on, but I just recently got full coverage for a DRZ400SM and it was a few dollars over $200 for the entire year here in Harris County. Kinda makes me want to buy another.

I called to update my info when I moved out here to katy a few years ago from montgomery where I previously lived in an open neighborhood, parked in the driveway and commuted 140 miles per day. She proceeds to tell me that my insurance is going to increase by 20 bucks, despite the fact that I moved into a gated neighborhood, began parking in a locked garage and my round trip commute was reduced to 40 miles.

Mind boggling.

The SV and The 250 all together are less than $400 for the year in Harris..

All my bikes have been anywhere from 28 - 40 bucks per month, but the difference between counties is pretty annoying.

I was going to change insurance from progressive to a site sponsor this year... the quote I got from the sponsor was much less than what I was paying to progressive...
when I contacted progressive to inform them, they dropped my rate by over $1000 a year...now the two bikes I keep full coverage on cost me less than the full coverage on the cbr did last year.
