I guess I should count myself lucky that the piston didn't come apart while the motor was running...

Stop being a -you perfectionist, just man up and ride the thing. Always with the excuses.........piston cracked, exhaust broke a weld, spit out the innards of the muffler, weather too hot/cold, am I wearing clean underwear-sheesh does it ever end? Good thing you found it now

You should have just put in some Marvel Mystery oil and be done with it.
On the serious side, detonation is a mother, you need to not bump the rev limiter and run some fuel.

Not me-I'm teaching an MSF course in the morning, didn't know we were going to GSS. Providing cone monkey and stunt riding support.

I don't know if I've ever hit the rev limiter on this bike - honestly, I wasn't sure the wr's actually had 'em (my old lc4 did not have a limiter, so it isn't completely unheard of). I assumed they did, but I can't recall running into it...

fuel is definitely on the list, as is a gearing change.

and I have a cool paperweight for the workbench in the garage...
