If that driver was allowed to leave the scene as stated and proceeded down the road and t-boned and killed another I would like to see the LEO share in the criminal charges for vehicular homicide.

Get the officer's name from your son's police report and file a formal complaint. This is the only way to stop this BS of LEO's deciding on their own what is too much trouble for them and/or what will not bring revenue to their dept/city.

I would venture to guess the LEO doesn't want to waste his time because he knows the judge will dismiss anyway.

On my first trip to traffic court in Houston I was there with a lot (mostly) of foreign people. I followed the rules and dressed neatly while most people were dressed like they were going to Walmart. I was excited because the judge was dismissing almost everything. My turn comes and the judge was a jerk and told me that I could plead not guilty and go to trial or I was being hit with the full fines. I didn't have time for that so I just paid and left. That was BS!

And what did we learn from this? We learned, next time, don't take a shower, dress like you're going to WalMart after working in the yard, speak with a heavy accent, and act like you don't know where you are - and you'll walk.

Little known tip: If the DA doesn't want to charge the LEO will let them go. It's not the cops fault or call.

Speculate as we may I doubt many of us know the real reason why illegal persons are not held to the same standards of accountability as the legal residents.

I'm not "young" and I see it coming to a head in my lifetime...

99% of the people who think it isn't a big deal are the ones who are on the welfare, taking food stamps, not carrying insurance, are here illegally, etc.

Ethnic back ground not counting....

Interesting discussion about DA and officer. My empathy to our young rider being hit. Given all of that, the USA is an incredible country to live in. Try North Africa for a while: Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. I lived in Tunisia for 3 years, the place allowed almost no personal rights, it was a total police state. Libya and Egypt (worked there extensively) were even worse.

I agree that the States United is a great place to live if you are talking comparatively. I would like to remind folks that the white spec on top of a pile of chickenshit is still chicken . When the best sucks, it is time to make it not suck and not be satisfied that chicken is the best there is. When the best is not good enough, make the best better.
