Is a license plate light required in the state of Texas?

I want to say it is required on a car, but is it required on a bike? I just bought a bike that the fender eliminator does not include a license plate light.

One time a cop turned his lights off behind me then puled me over telling me my license plate wasnt visible from 50 feet away i told him dont turn your lights off and it is lol, he told me i had to remount the lights around it, my plate on my truck is on a factory mount with factory lighting, i told him it needed to be taken up with chevy...
he let me go but wasnt very happy....lol

...and also EASY to fix.

Get one of the universal LED lights, or the "license plate bolt lights". Doesn't have to be fancy.

I thought the verbage was something like: "...if they are on the vehicle, they must work..." May be they were the turn signals. I remember reading that the wording left some interpretation as to whether they must be present on the vehicle.

Its for turn signals, if present they must all work, if there are none then the rider may use hand signals as a substitute. Bikes without signals entirely will pass state inspection while inoperative signals results in a fail.

The lights for the plate are always required and just have to be strong enough to make the plate legible from 50 ft.

Thanks, I remember it was one or the other. The "legible from 50ft" rule begs another question though... legible from 50ft according to whom? If I were the cop, at 50ft, all of your bikes will fail fer sure.

yup.

i think there are a few threads in Fresnel's law sponsor section where he put the actual wording up, all of the rules as well.
