market for gs500f

I know the market for 500cc bikes isn't all that hot, but for a 2007 gs500f with about 13k miles, is $2600 too high of a price.

Bike is mechanically sound... does NOT have dents, rash, dings etc...overall 8/10

If I were to buy it, what's a fair price. I want my wife to get back on a bike, and be able to sell for about the same that I bought it for like a ninja 250

I've never dabbled in the 500cc market..most bikes I sell are either 250cc or 600cc.

The big question is, would I.be able to buy this for $2300-2400 and sell for close to or the same when it's time to sell.

2100 to 2300 is reasonable. For their price it would need less than 4k miles.

Price is not bad. Something you may want to check. I am pretty sure this is a carbureted bike which may mean more maintenance.

it's not really in demand... so you could possibly just dictate pricing to your advantage.
I'd try 2k cash.

The gs500 is probably one of the shittiest bikes ever produced. Buy her a ninja 250 for the same price or less.

she's ridden a 250 for about a year... Was looking for viable options with a little more power and I can sell for the same price I bought

IMO the 500 would be a lateral move at best. Look at an sv650, fz6, and the like. Maybe a cbr600 f3 or f4. Those are all down on power compared to modern 600's other than maybe the f4. Seriously, the 500 is a POS and should of never been produced. If you are dead set on a 500 look at the ninja 500 instead .

A bike most forget about, but is a great learning bike, you might want to look for an EX500 as mentioned above. The can be ridden very quickly and can be had for a song.

The GS 500 just does't sell well from all I have seen. I'm not saying they are horrible bikes, but the market treats them as such.

If you want to be sure you retain value, look for a "cult" type bike. A Hawk GT, Bandit 400, older VFR750, etc type bikes are all rock solid in their pricing both in buying and selling.

If you can find a nice Hawk GT, she won't be disappointed, and they can be ridden very well at the track later if desired.

I recently was able to ride my old FZR600, it would be a great option as well and their pricing for a nice version is in your range. It won't depreciate much more either.

For the GS posted, I wouldn't pay more that 1700 and that's only because I would want to minimize what I will lose when I sell it later.

Some examples because I'm bored this AM...

older VFR500, could probably grab for 1500 and sell for 1500 later.

cheap FZR600 that needs some work, but would be still less than $2300 when all in with repairs (and a fun project). Might be able to get under $1000?

http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/3007237342.html

Better one, but looks like aftermarket plastics. Shoot for under $2K to buy.

Ninja 500 I'd sshoot for $2K as well.

I had a GS500 in 1991...That was my FIRST NEW bike...I rode the sh@t out of that bike, parallel twin, smooth, the transmission was a little twitchy sometimes but all in all not a bad bike...I rode it from Houston to Sacramento CA when I joined the Air Force..The only time I noticed the bikes lack of power is going through the mountians (I'd fly going down the other side though)...Not many mountians around here, just flat lands...This bike makes a great commuter or weekend warrior..I'd pay $2k for one

I didn't even think about this... A Hawk GT would be an excellent choice!

There are far too many better options out there than the suz 500. check out the write up I did on it a while back.

I wouldn't mind another bike, but I love my GS500.

My confidence is through the roof on this bike.

The faired version is hideous imo though.

Probably helps a little with the wind though and looks a tad better than the EX500.
