Leather or Mesh Jacket

I'm wondering what you believe is better for Houston's weather - a leather jacket or mesh/textile jacket? I'm a new street rider and not sure how hot either one gets during the summer.
Thanks!

I wore my leather Alpinestars throughout the summer with no issues...

I'd rather go down in leather than in mesh.

I used to wear leather exclusively, and still do whenever I race / do track days, but it takes a lot of discipline to put on a leather jacket in August when it's over 100 outside.

Nowadays I wear a good armored mesh 8-9 months out of the year and either an insulated textile or leather the other 2-3 months.

If you're truly going to ride year round in Houston, I'd recommend both;
Either a mesh and leather or mesh and textile combo.

If you're on a budget, a lot of the mesh jackets nowadays have removable insulated liners that work well down to the 50's or so. After that they get a little cold.
On the other end of the spectrum, a perforated leather, with a liner / wind vest, works pretty well except when it gets in the lower 30's or when it's above 90.

As you can see, either one by itself is a compromise, which is why I'd recommend having both kinds of jackets.

Whichever you choose, go with a quality jacket with CE armor and that fits you well.
By fit I mean not just when you're standing in front of the mirror but when you're also on the bike.

We've got quite a few jackets in stock, mesh, textile and leather, and we can help fit you and advise you in what features you might want.

Don't forget to ask for your MH discount, and oh yeah, welcome to our sport!

One of each. Also look into Under Armor if not wearing riding pants, Icon makes some but look into mountain bike sites as well for useful stuff.

I always ride in full gear, best prepared for the worst?

Thanks. So what exactly am I looking for at Under Armour or Icon - something to wear under my jeans or something else? What exactly do you suggest?

Under Armor will be short or shirt you wear under your gear.
