Fallen Rider in Katy

I just saw it in the Katy Times today, but it happened a few days ago. His name was Garrett Becker and he was 17 years old. As the story says, "he was riding his 06 CBR600RR on Franz road racing a white cadillac when he lost control of the motorcycle at high speeds and struck a curb. Upon hitting the curb he was ejected from the motorcycle. He did not die upon impact but died at the scene." It doesn't say if he was or wasn't wearing gear or how fast he was going.

I personally did not know him, but it sucks to lose another teen rider here in katy. I feel for his parents because he was their only child.

The driver of the white caddy was arrested for driving on a suspended license, racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury, and intoxicated manslaughter.

RIP

How is the driver of the Cadillac is responsible for causing serious bodily injury? Intoxicated manslaughter? The motorcyclist was ran over?

Charges can be made against the caddy driver for racing, dui, and suspended license for obvious reasons. I think the reasoning behind the charges for injury and manslaughter is there wouldn't have been a race between the two if the one of them chose not to participate therefore the rider may not have sped to his unfortunate end. If it were the other way around and the caddy driver died, the rider could be charge for manslaughter and what not. I'm no lawyer though just throwing it out there.
Really he shouldn't have been on the street with a bike like that. Kids don't belong on bikes like 600RRs anyway...at least not on the streets. His parents must feel pretty bad about getting him a bike. Was it his bike? Borrowed maybe?

like i said before, the article didnt provide that many details. i was confused as well for the charges against the owner of the caddy, because Franz rd. is a residential street not a highway. It didnt mention the model of the caddy, it just said a white cadillac.

I looked for the story on click2houston and fox news houston, but i couldnt find anything. I tried using the search tool on katytimes.com to find the articlce, but they didnt have it even though it was the first story on the front page just a few days ago.

If anything else comes of this, ill be sure to post it up.

as parents, I wonder what its like to waste 17yrs of your life, just to end up paying a huge fee to the hospital to pop him out, then to pay anotehr huge fee to pop him into the ground.

If only they had known, they prolly would have done the bunny right after he was born, and popped out a smarter kid.
