Camelbak Advice

So I got a sweet 50% deal on a dakine camelbak hydration system.

http://ca.dakine.com/p/packs/surf-pa...hydration-pack

So I got a couple questions:

Will it keep my gin and tonic fizzy?

If I put jager in it will it stain the tube?

Do you usually wear it above or below your jacket?

What do you usually put in your pack?

Are there any trick to keeping it cold?

How often when you ride do you wear it?

Has anyone attempted to hide/store the bladder inside a speed hump?

Any specific tips for cleaning or storing?

Hmmm. That's alot of questions.

I personally only put water in mine. Never worn it o. The bik. bUt I would probably wear it over the jacket. mine zips open at the bottom so its pretty easy to clean. I use two of these small rods that came in a lunch kit to keep it cold. i do believe there is a jacket that uses the hump. I think there was a thread on it a while back.

So I got a couple questions:

Will it keep my gin and tonic fizzy? - let me know how that works out for ya

If I put jager in it will it stain the tube? - let me know how that works out for ya

Do you usually wear it above or below your jacket? - wearing it under your jacket will keep the heat off it, and keep the liquid cooler.

What do you usually put in your pack? - water & ice. Gatorade

Are there any trick to keeping it cold? - ICE ICE Baby

How often when you ride do you wear it? - When im going out for fun and not commuting anywhere. long trips

Has anyone attempted to hide/store the bladder inside a speed hump? Spead hump?

Any specific tips for cleaning or storing? Clean it with warm water, dry as much as possible and cram paper towels inside to store it. hang it remove the mouth piece as well from the tube if possible

Hmmm. That's alot of questions.

I use half ice, half gatorade. I wear it every time I ride in the heat. Broke down without it once, and it really sucked. It was nice meeting you today!

I have only used water in mine. I fill it full of ice and then add water. Stays cold all day when wearing it on the outside of my jacket.

Ok. Thanks for the replies.

I'll do some testing and will attempt to find a way to integrate into jackets.

Mine was still cold today when I left. It was in the sun for about an hour and a half on top of the fuel tank.

I have a different brand that has a big ziplock on the top (old 4L Platypus), so I just dump ice in there.

I did gatoraid a few times. The bag and tube always got moldy after so I had to soak in bleach solution.

I just keep some electrolyte pills now, and use plain water.

if you put anything other than water in it, make sure you clean it out real well each time you are done. they will grow mold fast in the tube.

Gatorade seems to make mold grow the fastest. I used mine with some cranberry and vodka a few times. I didn't like the idea of a carbonated beverage inside of a closed bag so i didn't try rum and coke or gin and tonic.

walmart has a 2l bladder that has a built in gel pack. you clean and place it in the freezer after use. The camelpak i just bought suggested after cleaning to place about a tsp of lemon juice and a small bit of water in the pack and swish it around to help clean it. you can also leave that in and freeze.

Nice thanks for the advice. I'm pretty pumped to try this out.

I guess I'll try water first then Gatorade. See how it goes.

Camelback makes tablets you put in to help clean out. I have never used them because I only use water and ice.
