It's not that hard to make your intentions known to the flashing cop car. It is as much for your safety as it is for the cop, and they know it.

Can't guarantee that'll get you enough brownie points to avoid getting a ticket, but it does not hurt. I've never had a LEO get upset about having to follow me for some distance into a parking lot or side street.

I always make it a point to take off my helmet and have my papers ready before the LEO walks up to me. And always make sure BOTH my hands are clearly visible to the LEO at all times. They want to go home to their family at the end of the day as much as I do.

I'm batting better than .500 doing this on the last 5 stops.

THAT... I'll slow down and put my left hand up till I need it to make the turn into the nearest side street or parking lot. I am not going to stand my on the side of a freeway or super busy road.... I've never been chastized for it and one DPS officer actually got on his loudspeaker and told me to go ahead and go up a few blocks to the next parking lot with lights... (it was night)

I've never pulled over on a shoulder. I always point to the parking lot I'm pulling over in and then put my key on my back seat.

Sad to hear about this but I can't believe he pulled over on an entrance ramp of all places.

lol, no worries, mate. I wasn't looking to point out any one individual per se...that's just one that pops up on this forum (and many others for that matter) quite a lot. Today just happened to be the day I decided to put up a PSA on the matter.

Doesn't appear that the guy ever pulled over, sounds like they were still driving when it happened. More like, police were ”attempting” to pull him over, got up next to him to signal where to pull over, then got side swiped.

Am I reading that correctly Bevo?

I understood it as the motorcyclist stopped on the ramp, and instead of pulling up behind him, the officer pulled up to his side to roll down the window and actually ask him to.

Now... let's be rational about this. According to the Good Book, the truck driver should be made to straddle a bike on the same offramp and have the deceased man's father/mother/wife/son driving an Chevy Silverado plow him over.

Yea, HPD was driving to the left of the bike, trying to tell him to take the next exit and not pull over on that on ramp. The truck side swiped the right side of the HPD car and ran right over the rider

RIP.. but just as a side note, I've personally been forced to pull over on a busy road with no shoulder. Every cop is different and most are in a hurry most of the time. I was on Rankin in my ws6 when a cop tried to pull me over. I slowed to like 20 mph and got in the right lane and proceeded to go straight to the cvs. The cop rolled his window down, hit his siren and raise his hand for me to stop. Then proceeded to give me a hard time about not stopping right away
