Motorcyclist Killed

Quote:
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Something went horribly wrong as police attempted to pull over a man on a motorcycle early this morning on Houston's south side. There was an accident and that man is now dead.

The accident happened on the feeder of the South Freeway near Yellowstone. Police say an officer had just turned on his lights to pull over a man on a motorcycle who was speeding and running red lights. That's when a pickup side swiped the patrol car and hit the motorcycle.

The man on the bike crashed and was killed. Police are questioning the driver of the pickup.

I'm sure there will be a few out there that will want to blame the officer for them getting hit. I stop people all day long and no matter how much you bump the siren or wave your hands or tell them over the PA (which is diffcult to understand sometimes), people will park where they want until you physically get out the car and tell them where to go.

If you're on a bike and want to drive a bit further to a safer area just turn your hazard lighst on maybe wave to the officer to show that you acknowledege he's there and then go to a safe area. I've never had a problem with people doing that.

My bikes don't have hazard lights. , my drz doesn't even have blinkers so I'd be getting a beatdown when I finally found a safe spot to pull over.

Its true. People lose all semblance of functional thinking as soon as they see those lights. I've seen people pull over in the DUMBEST locations imaginable because they freaked out and had to pull over NOW.

If the guy wasn't speeding and running red lights he wouldn't have gotten pulled over in the first place. Kind of ironic that the guy gets puller over for reckless driving yet gets taken out by another reckless driver.

Yeah i really of a metro cop for not pulling over on a small break down lane. But i was concerned about OUR safety while he was only concerned about quickly writting a ticket.

The article didn't say he was speeding. It said he was running red lights. At 1:30AM there's not enough traffic to trip lights with a bike. If he was treating lights as a stop sign he was still "running red lights" but could have easily been doing so safely. Until he got jammed up by a cop and a drunk.

RIP rider.

They need to cut the nuts off the drunk.

I just read the main post listed as (KTRK). I didn't read the ABC article. Either way, feeder are dangerous while riding, much less stopped. It's unfortunate that the biker was complying with the police only to get struck by some drunk .

The original story has been updated but it did say this:
Quote:
Police say an officer had just turned on his lights to pull over a man on a motorcycle who was speeding and running red lights.
