Is the 636 what you started riding on? It's not exactly the best beginners bike, you know. Still, I've seen people pick worse starter bikes. If you are comfortable riding around after 2months, you should be able to handle a 2hr ride... as long as you can separate the road hazards from the "people" hazards.

Can you ride there and just park it for the whole weekend? If your other buddies are caging it in, then go for it, but go early though, before the nutjobs start pickling their livers.

What Rael said. My buddy Ed and I are pondering weekend rides, we decided to go Sunday afternoon (out of maximum cager activity window) down to Brazos Bend SP. Likely I will ride a bit this afternoon in SL, Saturday I have to work, Monday morning I may get up early and go. Use your intuition, riding is not a race or competition, the idea is to have fun, build skills and also be safe!

Don't credit me, that was all Obed.

It takes a while to build up stamina for riding also. The first time I spent more than an hour in the saddle I could feel it the next day.
