replace exhaust gaskets or reuse

so i got a full akra exhaust in, brand new

bike has 5k, but bike is 2010 model, so its a little older.

it did not come w/ new gaskets

option 1, reuse
2, get local if in stock (get "raped" on price)
3, order from fav. shop, pay taxes, shipping and wait.

I re-used mine, no issues. But now I have over 45k and noticed a little exhaust leak, so I used the OE gasket as a template and cut a new gasket from a roll and then stacked both of them, problem solved.

I have reused my exhaust gaskets in the past without issue. Check them to make sure they are not warped or anything. You can also use a little hi-temp gasket sealer on the gaskets to help out: http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...sket_Maker.htm

Also, after you install the exhaust, run it for a while to check for leaks, let it cool and then retorque.

You don't want to have to drill the bolts out if you ever have to take it off again.

Depending on which bike it is for, there will probably be exhaust studs instead of bolts. If it has studs, anti seize is not nearly as important, however it can't hurt either. If it has studs, and any of them come out of the head, then use red loctite on the studs-to-head, and be sure the nut threads on smoothly

Reuse on the Tuono.
Tighten the flanges gradually.

well the exhaust won, after 2.5 hrs and i only got to the point of touching the lower 2 ft bolts let alone undoing them then the top 2, i think the upper rad. needs to be dropped. and on and on......

sigh

now, pay a shop $200 to install, for very marginal gains

or

cut my losses and just get as much as i can out of the system and get some slip-ons , which i know i can put on as i got my OE cans off w/o a prob. really.

:(

well lets see, wife and daughter are out of town this weekend, so it's me and the boy child

should i tie him to a post while i run and do laps?

and honestly, for me i feel its selfish for me to go do a trackday and leave the wife and kids, but thats just me.

as i told pete, i have more $ then time w/ my kids.....so they are priority 1

I was referring to all of your posts back in the day where you told everyone to go to a trackday instead of doing mods to their bike. You were the anti-mod guy, but times have changed I see.

I understand wife/kids being the priority. I just sold my velodrome track bicycle and aero wheels to cut down on my hobbies due to time constraints.

To better reach the nuts look into mini/stubby socket wrenches and also flexible extensions. I ended up buying these over the years due to exhaust installations. There is also a socket wrench you can get that turns the ratchet by twisting the handle. Good luck.
