lanesplitting info for CA

According to a survey conducted by the California Office of Traffic Safety, the majority of car drivers are unaware that lane splitting is a legal practice. A small minority, seven percent, admitted to researchers that they’d actively tried to prevent lane splitting. Despite that, the vast majority, 84.4 percent of riders, have never had an incident while splitting.

Too bad they still won't legalize it here in Texas.

all the time!

Its very common to see cars at a complete stop or crawl in traffic to move towards the line to cut off a bike. I never did it unless there's a long light in heavy traffic; then I would come to the front.

I go to CA often and my brother and i ride there. Makes me quite uncomfortable to follow him thru trafic. Ofcourse, i ride a big bmw gs adventure with all the bags hanging so not that easy to go in between cars

I miss having the ability to do that. First few times it is nerve racking. You get used to it. Houston is a place they should legalize it. Using your blinker is legal most cars don't do it. Maybe the reason why is not

Either way, lane splitting should be legal.
It should be illegal for people that don't use their turn signals and text at the same time.

I've bumped a few mirrors myself splitting lanes in Cali...

7% seems about right. If traffic is moving at all, it's a given that cars will hog the right side of the far lane.

I believe you are limited to 15MPH over flow of traffic. It's been 10 years since I lived there so it may of changed

I wish filtering were legal in Texas, time for a petition?

Because of the recent thread about lane splitting I paid attention to that while in San Francisco recently. Basically don't speed between the cars and if you go to the front at a light, be sure to be the first off.

The bill to allow motorcycles to filter was up at the Texas state congress on the last session, but it was not brought up, people are hoping that it gets voted on this year.
