aftermarket headlight question

i just purchased this for a project bike me and a friend are building, just to get something to light it

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-SV650...ht_5109wt_1194

its only has a 20w bulb as most of the pos lights on ebay, but my question is. can i simply buy a brighter bulb and plug and play? or would i need different wires or something? i want to put a 55w bulb in

If you run a higher wattage bulb you risk melting it.

no its only temporary and $30, im getting something different next pay check so its not that big of a deal i was just curious. i just need something so when we do work we could just run it up and down the street at night instead of leaving and coming back in the morning and then rushing to work.

Like Patrick said. Additionally, I learned a lot about housings being designed for the intended bulb. Some HID conversions emit a scattered, blinding light when they're installed in housings designed for halogen bulbs. I bought a used HID conversion kit on eBay that someone removed from a used truck they purchased (po replaced only one headlight with HID). Had planned on using in my ZX6, but the Xenon arc is perpendicular from the halogen filament and also further out, dramatically changing the focal point. So now I just have real bright light that can make some cool shadows on the wall.

Even if it survive the heat of 55w bulbs, the optics are so poor that you won't throw much more light onthe road. These lights are bought for the looks, not to look where you're going.

What if.... U get a multiple LED bulb for that specific size? A 55w might melt it but perhaps a 35w?

If you want to keep it simple and still get good lighting, get a generic 5-3/4" round can with E-code lamp. Even with cheap 55/60w H4 halogen bulb, it throw a good beam pattern. They are relatively cheap. I bought a pair of them intending on doing a Speed Triple look-alike job on my S83, but never got around to it.
