Here we go again... first you need to be comfortable on your bike before going to a track day because they build on your knowledge and comfort. You will learn more at a track day than you do on the street but you have to make the par for the course, which typically is 5000 miles of experience...

There are lots of people with bad habits out there and even I will admit that I do my best to provide a safe, slow speed environment to develop your comfort level in turns during the noob rides I host. Granted I am not the greatest motorcycle rider there is but I promote good habits that I wish would have been promoted to me when I start. I try to stress that body position and smooth inputs are whats key when we have those rides. Not to mention I get lots of help from people like BaoPee, Rykoson, NewRider,BluePine.. who also stress the same habits.

The videos will saturate you with great information that you can keep in mind but you won't be able to apply because you arent comfortable with your bike. You won't be comfortable with your bike until:

1) You are smooth with your inputs -> Throttle, braking, even how you set up for turns so that your suspension will settle properly and carry you through the corner.

2) What the straightest way to "corner" is -> The whole trick to twisties/track/curves is to try and go as straight as you can through them. You want to use the available space in the width of the corner to construct a line that effectively straightens the corner as much as possible. Simply asking someone to show you how to go through corners better means you understand that it is much easier to go fast in a straight line than it is while leaned over.

3) Understand that riding a motorcycle is a fight for traction. More lean = less rubber touching the road = less traction... so to combat this proper body position and line allows you to keep the bike more vertical .. which keeps it closer to the the highest traction rubber contact to the road = highest traction point.

4) Look where you want to go... if you are looking at the ground/ fence/ car in front of you the bike will go there. So you need to look through the corner to where the exit is so your bike will follow your eyes... otherwise it will follow your eyes into the fence you were fixated on.

and I am sure Bevo and some of the other more advanced riders can add to this list and I encourage them to.

Number one rule while learning is there is no room for your ego... you aren't Valentino Rossi and frankly you won't ever be... sorry to crush your dreams. Riding the street is about enjoying the weather safely with friends. You should never be pushing your limits when you ride street and obviously the limit differs from person to person but the one thing they have in common is this.

The street is dangerous you don't know if there is a car in your lane in that blind corner, whether theres a cow, horse, debris in the road... so you have to provide yourself with a cushion to react to those elements safely.

don't forget...nails, dogs, people, cyclists, and the other noobs..... Track is dangerous too, but has less variables to worry about.. Love the street because your free to keep going and don't have to pit in when the session is over.

Just get some seat time, and we will ride soon enough.. just don't practice trying to find your limit on the street....it won't end well, I know..

Not at the end yet!!! Thats what I mean by find your limits at the track.. Always better to go down there. At least you can walk away..and have a trailer on stand by ... and EMS if you need it.

Your last track day and that pass was a close one that could have ended bad too!!
