^^ surely you dont think they were better off before, and your answer should have nothing to do whether you think we should be the worlds police, cause I dont agree with us doing that either, but surely you can't think those people are worse off than when they were before

I would say I really don't know but I doubt anything is better for them at the moment. A nation ravaged by war and civil unrest does not sound like a better place to me. One thing we as freedom loving Americans seem to fail to understand is that this is an area of the world governed by religion. There is no seperation of church and state which tends to compliment a monarchy style of goverment. As all this plays on I really don't see how any of this has been for the better good of Iraq or its people. Maybe it will someday if the population wakes up to the idea of personal freedom but, who is to say they will. They have submitted to a religion that is very strict to begin with which is the basis for all the law in their land. I personally do not understand this mindset and that is what reinforces that I really don't know how this has become a better situation.

Not really trying to argue. I never agreed with any of the actions that have taken place over there and still do not agree with how we are handling the situation but, as this drags on i just don't see the silver lining for a group of people who never wanted this lifestyle.

Well, I hope that at least even though they are still governed by a unitary body, that they will begin to understand the concepts set forth by our great nation........

Very optimistic, we will see but, I think most of us fail to understand the lifestyle choices the people of the Middle East choose.

this is entirely true too, Our way of life is much different than their interpretation of life.
That being said, its no reason to live beat down like animals. mebbe they know nothing else, but mebbe its time they realize, they are not animals and are not to be treated as such

+ one billion.
I have to admit, I bit on the cookie the guvment and our fearless leader put out. I was ok with going to kick his , now I see 3,000 + sons and daughters died for this cause and I dont even really know what the cause was really for. I wonder if they (soldiers) feel abandoned by the guvment? sad
but thats a whole 'nuther thread indeed.

The only thing I have to say about all of this, 3000+ of our men have died but there is never any mention of the Iraqi's<sp> that have died and yet, the Iraqi's have not made a big push to have us leave? I kinda think if the majority of the Iraqi people wanted us out of there they would say so. That would lead me to believe they at least THINK they are better off now?

And what really bothers me about this and would completely change my view about the apprehension, trial and sentencing of Saddam is how we are currently handling the war effort. I mean, why did we not just finish the job out right and completely eliminate any threats in the area. Now we have uprising regimes in different areas of the country while we try to continue a door to door war effort in large cities. So, basically at this point I try not to even follow this stuff on a daily basis as I would before. I think it would be interesting to do a cost comparison between the current strategy and what it would have costs to just blow the doors off the place with all of our advance military weapons and then fund the country to rebuild. (Similar to Japan) I am sure we have all heard this before though. It is just frustrating and I really feel we as the people have lost control of the direction this country should be heading. Hopefully I can get in a few races before everything goes to .

Very good point. Some of them definitely enjoy our presence. Others tolerate it in hopes of a better change but, the topic was is the general situation better over there. At this point I doubt it and maybe it will be in the end and maybe it won't. It is hard for me to decide this because I think I lack the knowledge of the area in general. Although, I have tried since the beginning to get a broad view of the situation from different perspectives. I mean honestly, I am an American and could careless if we were able to convert the entire planet to the United States of Earth. That would possibly be the greatest thing ever but, at the same time our values have never been to divide and concur. Which for some reason I feel is what has happened in Iraq.
