2004 R6

What is your opinion on problem. R6 shutting off.

I'm about to purchase a 2004 R6 with low miles. For the past 2 years it hasn't been ridden. MAYBE 10 times total in the last 2-3 years. Bike has a problem, it shuts off if you let off the throttle. It will start right back up but keeps doing this... Its a good friend of mine so I know he's not selling me bunk .

I was looking at it about 4 months ago and it was idling fine, but he said it was surging when giving the throttle and just riding rough. I think it's bad gas, but what else would yall suggest I look into for fixing it? I'm a new rider and really dont know anything about bikes so whatever you suggest is very helpful. Thanks guys.

If you haven't done so already, drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel and some Seafoam.
Did you try adjusting the idle?
What is it idling at?

This is exactly what I told him, probably tonight if I can get off early enough or tomorrow we'll drank the tank and re-fill with fresh gas and then run some sea-foam through it. How long should it still run before it will have the kinks completely worked out? I honestly don't know what it is idling at. I will play with that when I put the new fuel in. I'm REALLY hoping it just has old gas so I can get it on the road asap.

It was running 100% perfect before he put it away. It sat under a cover under his porch for 2-3 years occasionally being ridden up and down the street once ever blue moon so I know nothing moajor is wrong with it.

It could be Electrical in the map or computer. If the bike is EFI it could be a ton of different things. My advice would be to take it to a trusted Motorcyle Mech. and let them trouble shoot it for you. Then you fix what they tell you is wrong. It should'nt take them more than an hour to trouble shoot ($85) and then you will know.

Try draining and changing the gas first. With the ethanol in the gas nowadays, it condenses more water. No point in spending money until you've ruled bad gas out of the list of potential causes.

With a full tank of fresh 93 and sea foam I would let it run till it reaches operating temp, bring the rpm up to 3-4 grand for about 30 seconds . It might take the whole tank before it clear up
