sounds good. the state provides the trash bags. the vol's walk down the sides of their stretch of road and bag the trash then leave it for the hwy dept. to come pick up. there's no gravel sweeping or cutting of limbs involved.

sounds like a cool idea. probably have to check with sol to make sure using the MH name would be allowable.

I am not over 6'2", but i would still get one of those poles with a nail in the end to stick the trash with so I do not have to bend over a 1000 times, especially in front of a few of the folks who post on here and might show up...

update

I spoke with the Houston area coordinator and she explained the program.
It's pretty straightforward: the state provides the trashbags, safety vests and puts up a sign on each end of the 2 mile stretch.
4 times a year (with a 2 year commitment) you put the trash in the bags and pile them up at one or both of the signs (I've got a truck so this isn't a problem); call them and they send a truck the next day to pick up the bags. If there is anything hazardous or too heavy, just flag it and they'll send someone to take care of those.
There is no road debris, gravel, downed limbs or the like to mess with. She said the longest she has heard of it taking is 4 hours, usually about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, depending of course on the number of volunteers.
I will pm Solracer to make sure he's cool with this and I have requested an application to be mailed to me. She said it usually takes about 2 or 3 weeks to get everything rolling. If anyone has any ideas about a stretch of highway post it up!

I did this program a few years back when I was with HOH, we (our Honda Riders Chapter) had a stretch of Crabb River rd, it was a very smooth program, and they do provide all of the supplies....

We would make a ride out of it out there, and have a chase truck with lunch and coolers of water so we could picnic after the clean up....

hwy 105, 149, 3090, crab river road, something along 288 going towards MSRH. and for a "hot road" whats wrong with showing your faces around the good roads, maybe it'll teach some squids to give a little respect to the area. it would also show the people in the areas that we too care about the area and preserving it.

Great to see such good response to this. How many people do you think we need to make this happen? Looks like we have about 20 right now.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered and/or shown interest in this idea. To answer your question, I was kinda thinking of around 30 or so. 22 since Tuesday morning is actually more than I expected!

I wonder if this counts as community service for traffic tickets?

Let's do this!

Thanks everyone that has committed to this. Looks like we have a great group of people here and enough to make this happen! Spoke with Cool New Name.....and he has a prospect for a section on road that is available....more to come on it soon. If anyone knows of a section, that is available, they would want to be considered please throw it out there.

I know there is work involved here, but let's have some fun with this.

Hopefully people will continue to sign up.

Allthough, i would like to see us do a stretch of i45, or 146 since they are nearby!!
