Question MotoHouston Adopt a Highway sponsor *UPDATED*

First of all thanks to everyone who has volunteered!
I have submitted the application to TxDot and we are awaiting their approval. The stretch of highway we are asking for is a straight section of 362 just south of that shown on Lone Rider's map. It is a section directly in front of Dewberry Farms. After careful consideration of everyone's input we believe that this section will give both safety to those volunteering as well as relatively high exposure to traffic. We also considered the impression on the locals if we had specifically selected a section with 40mph corners in them. I know that this section is out of the way for some volunteers but with the size of Houston and its sprawl, any section selected will inevitably be a long ride for some members.

We are now waiting on the State

THE BASICS OF THE PROGRAM
What we give:
2 year commitment to pick up trash from the roadway 4 times a year
What we get:
1. 2 BIG blue signs on the highway that say MOTOHOUSTON
2. a chance to get involved in something positive
3. positive exposure from the locals and other motorists

Please continue to copy and paste your name at the bottom of this list if you wish to volunteer.

well why not, it'd be your name on the sign and if you crash you wouldn't have to worry about laying on an old Cheeto's sack, lol.

Interesting idea.

Some thoughts:
If the idea is to generate positive publicity, wouldn't you want to chose a road with a very high volume instead of some backroads?
It would be much easier to get a group of people to go clean a road that's close to Houston.

Sounds like a great idea, a stretch of RR would be cool. Hopefully this will get enough interest to make it happen. Count me in.

I was thinking mostly about motorcycle volume and the locals. We could use some positive pr on 3090 and RR.

We could, but when people continue to fly by those areas in the triple digits, it will only give them a place to track the riders. Even if they aren't a part of this board. That's even more bad publicity and worst of all it's unwarranted.
Rurals want less intrusion, not more.

I think it is a cool idea still.
Good luck!

"State supplies everything but the labor"

Labor to do what?

They supply a truck and trailer to drive along as we pick up?
We supposed to sweep the gravel 4 times a year?
Clear low/down limbs?

What exactly is involved?

I am fairly certain that what I was doing there last Sunday morning was frowned upon

I would be in, we just need to maintain cleaning the trash. As far as the gravel and down limb should still be handled by county/city i believe
