Dual Sport (Adv)

I am thinking of dabling in dual sport but have no idea where to start. Is there anywhere around North Houston to do any off road riding? Anywhere to get training? I am afraid Texas Tornado boot camp is just to expensive ATM. Other than human powered BMX biking I have never done any off roading.

Thinking a used KLR 650 might be a good, affordable bike to learn on.

P.S. If this belongs in another area feel free to move.
