the wiring in the tail makes me think that was my old sv, but the paint and other things dont support that theory. nice buy. i look forward to seeing more. i also recommend bar end mirrors. you can see everything behind you with bar ends. with the stockers you can see your shoulders really well, and thats about it.
also, what are those silver things on the lower triple clamp that look like maybe measuring cups?

Not sure if that is a direction I want to go. I'm looking for an MV brutale-esque or other naked bike look. Agressive, but without that hunkered down forward leaning street fighter stance. For whatever reason when I think of naked bikes, I think upright mirrors. When I think bar ends, I think street fighter.

We'll just see how the look develops as I build the bike. For now budget will rule which means that the mirrors on the bike are what will remain there.

Screen printing setup. I run a vinyl graphics and screen printing shop out of my house, so if anyone ever needs some graphics or wants a run of shirts done, let me know. I also do one-off shirts using the heat press in the background.

I certainly hope your bike was better cared for than this one! It looks like it may have had some mechanical care, but it was certainly owned by the bike version of a ricer.

The "measuring cups" are a pair of horns that were on the bike... also one of the first things I pulled off!

If you are bent on upright mirrors then small bugeye mirrors in the top right corners make it a of alot easier to see around your shoulders... at least on the second gens..

craigslist with a bit of luck. I have notifications on my phone for anything I really want and when it shows up I jump on it immediately. It helps that I work at home so I can drop everything and be the first one to a sale.

Thanks for the tip, I guess I will have to search a bit more.
Looks to be a fun project. IN to see how it turns out.

Did some more work tonight. I wanted to figure out why my speedometer wasn't working so I pulled the headlight off to look at the wiring and found... this.

Ian's $500 '01 SV650 naked build

More wire nuts, electrical tape, an open 12v switched lead hanging out without any protection, and a bad solder joint on the headlight ground. I just love previous owners...

All connections cleaned up, soldered and heat shrinked now and ready to go.

Unfortunately for my wallet, the speedo problem seems to be past the connection to the board. Add to that, when I pulled everything apart the plastic pretty much disintegrated. Apparently there were a lot of cracks from when it took damage originally and taking it apart was just too much.

Time to order that trailtech vapor I guess...

lol, wire nuts.... They are fine in things that don't move, like houses, but someone needs to educate the public on crimp splices or the glories of solder and heatshrink.

Sadly, most of the crimp splices I've seen are so poorly crimped that they end up pulled out. At least the wire nuts are pretty much idiot proof, even if they aren't a good idea.

Either way I refuse to use any kind of non-solder joint other than a connector. I just always seem to end up with old bikes that have years of accumulated poor wiring.

Best part is that I can't even figure out why he would have worked on anything in here! For the life of me it all looks like stock wiring. I have no idea what was changed that required the work.

No getting around the rats nest, that is actually stock, but at least with the wires cleaned up it isn't a fire hazard any more!
