actually, the contact patch of the tire is greater at lean then the patch riding upright. that's why they can do stuff like that

You're correct. No reason to put it down just for the sake of putting it down at the end of the day, especially since I had ground flat the ends of the peg spurs.

knee is an indicator ... i suck it back up as soon as it touches and then if it touches again i know im pretty much at max ... there is a corner at gss where i can hold the bike up a bit with my knee its a really cool feeling easy to do with a little 250 i cant imagine what it would be like with a bigger bike but you can really hustle thru tight turns doing that

The knee is a gauge, and as you get faster it will happen less and less. I used to drag around every turn every lap, but now I just kinda tap knee every now and then. People that pivot on their tanks to get a knee down sadden me, as that style will eventually put them on the ground. But to address the hanging off comment, the lighter a rider is the more he needs off to get weight on the inside peg. A 150 lbs rider needs atleast half a cheek off the seat if not more, where 190 lbs and up gets half a cheek off at most. Hanging upper body off is not for dragging knee, though, the purpose of that is to get as much weight as possible to the inside of the centerline of the bike. By having your upper body inside and low, you stand the bike up more and are able to be more aggressive on the throttle on the exit, while adjustments midcorner are more forgiving as you now have much more room to work with lean angle wise.

Dragging knee doesn't make you fast, I've seen people win cmra championships on one set of kneepucks that looked almost new at the end of the season.

I did it by accident at GSS and frankly it scared me and I upset my suspension and ran wide when I shouldn't have. Totally had everything dialed in perfect that particular time through that particular corner only to spook myself through inexperience.

Funny you mention that. Putting a knee down never scared me, even the first time, but every single time I drag boot or peg it makes me check up a little bit. Every time.
