One of the biggest regrets of my life so far...

...is not seeing one of these babies touch off.

I'm hoping we have future administrations who can see the importance of space exploration over desert operations.

As much as I believe that our future will depend upon space exploration; I'd much rather the gov't stay out of it. Private industry could do a much better job, with far less waste.

Very valid point. Is anyone working on that?

If a private sector starts up, I'm definitely investing early on.

The guy that owns Virgin (Sir Richard Whatever). Has been all over it for a while now. It's gotta be hard to find investors when anyone with that kind of money is being taxed at 2,000,000%.

Not everyone is as tax-smart as Mitt Romney

Seriously though, I wish I did see one of them takeoff, in person...

You really think they are done using these? There is no replacement, and when that Astroid is spotted hurtling toward earth, Bruce Willis will strap that sucker on and.....

I had the privelage of sitting with media and astronaut familys at the closest public viewing location in Florida............It was one of the most incredible experiences ever. Difficult to explain, but watching this thing launch is patriotic, emotional and jaw dropping.

The ride out sucked. Took three hours to drive 20 miles..........

SpaceX is on contract with NASA for cargo and is getting development money to work the crewed option, so not exactly private industry.

There are no external tanks laying around, the production line has been stopped and the tooling equipment dismantled. So, yes there will be no more shuttle launches.

As a Houstonian, and as someone who got into science and math due to Space Exploration, it is amazing how much to think NASA has probably changed my life.

The current NASA budget is less than half a penny of the tax dollar.

How much would you pay for the Universe?
