The designations are as follows:

zx-10r = ZX1000KCF
ninja 1000 = ZX1000HCF
Z1000 = ZR1000DCF

The ZX is a red flag for the insurance company.
Sounds like they might adjust the rates once actual history data starts coming in. That is unfortunate how Kawi did the model numbers. In other countries, it's called Z1000SX (for SeXy?), which makes a lot more sense.

Really though, I think they should bump up the displacement (1043cc) by a few more cc's and call them ZRX1100. There is a lot of nostalgia and marketing value in that venerable name.

To me, Kawi did a far better job styling the Ninja 1000 than both the '11-12 ZX10R and the Z1000. BTW, I would hardly call the Z1000 a naked bike. The Z1 a few gens back and the Z-REX were truly naked - and things of beauty to my eyes. The latest Z1000 looks like it'll transform into a Decepticon when you press the starter button.

I like the 10R, but agree the Z1K is hardly naked, and in fact pretty ugly. Once you get rid of the factory pipes on the 1st gen(03-06) the bike looks awesome. A Z will probably be my next bike as well.

Had I not bought a trackbike last year, I was going to buy a Ninja 1k. (not ZX10) Awesome bikes, have been getting GREAT reviews. Comfy, has OEM storage, and plenty of power, and I DO like the way they look. Are they sleek and light? No, but they werent meant for the track either.

All praise aside though, the Ninja 1000 still has one buzzy inline4 in its core. I rode it quite spiritly in the last Kawi demo day event chasing right behind the lead rider (she went pretty fast on a ZX14). The buzzing coming up through the seat really surprised me. Shoot, my track bunny gixxer 600 doesn't even do that at 10-12k RPM. All the magazine review had led me to believe Kawi had tamed the vibrating beast a bit when they converted it from the Z1000 - thicker seat padding, more handlebar & footpeg isolation, etc.

Nobody buzzes my gonads unless I'm getting some real action.

I too rode the Ninja 1000 at a demo event and I really like it. It was comfy but still had decent power and handling.

From my understanding, it still has a zx-9 based engine.

I weigh about 215lbs plus I want a bike that can handle 2-up rides occasionally.
