good reliable bike under $2500

may be shopping again soon, still want a sporty bike and want it to look somewhat modern...

looking at the vtr 1000s, i loved the sound of my rc51 and was naturally drawn to this bike, i would probably ride it naked though ive seen them on craigslist for under $3k and i think they are pretty reliable

any other suggestions? not really looking for older cbr, ninjas and gsxrs...maybe an older r6, but basically i think im stuck on the vtr just looking for other opinions

Might consider Suzuki SV1000, if you are interested in the VTR. I almost bought a mint condition 2006 SV1000 for $4500. I'm sure you can find one for a little less. Not too many of them around, but it makes for a great street bike.

If you can afford it, the Aprilia Falco(1000cc twin) is a better choice IMO than the superhawk:

$2999

IF youre worried about gas mileage with your RX8 and selling it to get something with more MPGs, don't buy the VTR..... Superhawks are gas sucking pigs...

You can find pretty decent early 2000s GSXR750s in the $3000-3500 range if you shop around...Very reliable (other then 2nd gear issues on the 00-01s) and pretty decent on fuel. Plus parts are readily available...

after doing my research a little this morning, i may try going for a naked sv650 or 1k if i can find them cheap enough, and i kinda want to try out that naked look with the 200+ miles to the tank being a good idea

ive read of the aprillia sl1000 going about 115mi to the tank! lol

I'd struggle calling the VTR reliable here in Houston. Keeping them cool is difficult during the summer.

I've seen SV650 priced higher than SV1000 for the same year. I think it's because of the popularity of the SV650 as a cheap runnabout and as a track bike.

They come and go on Craigslist. Last year about this time, there were several SV1000 - a couple of them near San Antonio and one near Houston. If you want one cheap, you'll need the patience to wait for them.

If you want for under 2500 I would suggest a cb500 they're great on gas and insurance though may not be the quickest machine on the freeway.

He has a point. SV1000 typically runs cheaper since it was not as popular a bike as the 650. The 650 was seen as having a certain magic about them that didn't get recaptured in the 1000. SV enthusiasts love the 1000s but... thats why the 1000 was only made up until 07...
