I agree with what has been said here. I'll just add my two personal ideas:

1. Law of Large Numbers- When searching for my first new helmet, I knew you're supposed to try them all on...etc, etc. But if I read hundreds of posts and many of them who have crashed in a Shoei says they're good from experience....gotta be a pretty good statistic. I don't take it as fact, but it definitely gets my attention.

2. Run it by someone who I trust and knows about a lot. My Dad has been into cars/bikes since he was a kid. I run my ideas about mods and things by him, and even if he doesn't know exactly the part, he can tell me if it sounds like a good/bad idea just from the mechanics/physics end of it...

same rules apply when doing any type of research. gather up information and cross reference with as many sources as possible until you have enough evidence to logically consider a statement factual.

I can't tell you how many things i've learned and researched online regarding a product or item.

Research, ask around and learn. Then make an educated decision. You can't always count on one person's advice or opinion.
+1 The internet has gotten way too powerful, anytime I need anything. Google

i tend to already know which site i want to seek advice from, so in my google search i use the "site:" command to filter every other site.

example: if i were looking for fork oil level for a kx250f on thumpertalk.com, my search string is:

site:thumpertalk.com fork oil level kx250f

but for most part, I avoid the internet and dig right into the the factory service manual or go based off my own previous experience.

Brandt,

A buddy of mine has a KTM 350, he has been in the game for his whole life and used to race Brandon Cleland and beat him. When it comes to moto-x, I would take his advice in a heart beat. What is it you are wanting to do to the bike?
