I talked a kid out of buying the Buell

But then I sold it to somebody who probably wasn't ready for it...

He said he's not a member on here, but he was trolling for bikes. He may sign up - don't know.

He has gear (he said), but never owned a bike before and wanted to keep up with his friend's 'boosta'.

But I needed the money...

I was once very nervous about selling my old bikes; then I realized people need to take their own responsibility for their actions.

I offer fair warnings but in the end it is their choice. Our 650r is going to a couple that we need to deliver the bike to Wednesday. One of the guys rides a scooter, his partner(the one its bought for) is taking the course Saturday. Wish them the best of luck.

Hey - at least I encouraged the young guy to buy something smaller and learn throttle control! He had never ridden nor owned a bike - I thought a 1200 might be too much for him.

The man that bought the bike seemed to know a few things. He knew how to change the gears and start the thing... that's saying something.

My SV. I never rode the Buell. I couldn't reach the ground and the cost of lowering it was too high.

My SV is lowered almost 3" and I shaved 2" out of the seat just so I could tippy toe.

I think anyone who has gone through a bunch of bikes has this feeling.

I know when I sold an older ZX6R, the kid didn't even test ride it. Never heard from him again either. Always wondered what happened to him/the bike?

I traded one of my motards to a 21 y.o. kid on Craigslist for a dirt bike a few years ago. A few months later his friend found me on here and told me he had died on it on 149 when a truck had a blowout and hit him headon, found the news article with the pictures of the bike and whatnot, sad.

when I sold the gs5, the guy's friend had to ride it for him, and when I sold the 650r to my friend; I received a phone call the next day asking for a shop that fix motorcycle rims... he bent the front rim.

difficult situation but in the end the seller is only responsible for so much and the rest is on the new owner.

I think it's a good habit to keep your license plate when you sell a vehicle, it kind of goes along with what you are saying about "the rest is on the new owner".. They might hurt someone, do a hit and run, commit a crime, etc. I wouldn't want to be connected to that in any way.

and Brandy, I'm sure you made the correct decision for that kid. as most young guys, he probably wanted the bike just so he could "show off or compete with his friends" (no, not racing). I have had to refuse to sell a couple bikes to people for the same reason - it's one of those "you're gonna appreciate this one day" kind of things.

I always liked the color scheme on the XB12R's. You should try ad Scg like mine, they're considerably lower. Although I'm 6'2" I bought because I preferred the more aggresive look.

idk... while I agree with not selling for the sake of your own conscious. if the buyer has a hard on for a specific bike, he'll just go to another seller and purchase.
