Lightbulb culture time: Menil museum: biker photos

All,

Ok, it is time for some biker culture. Go ride down to the Menil (museum district, near Rice University), park in their free parking by the big red jack sculpture. Go inside, it is free. Make a left and find the Danny Lyon photo exhibit. Danny was a biker during the sixties, and there are some amazing biker pictures he took. He even wrote a book about his biker gang called "The Bike Riders". Check out the photo of Cowboy and Sparky, it is amazing, Sparky has a girl scout pin on his black leather jacket. Can you spot it amongst all the iron crosses? These are the days of Triumph Bonnevilles, loud pipes, crappy brakes and when bikers were at the margins of society. My dad, in the late fifties called them "chukes". Seriously, this exhibition is worth your time....

cheers,

Cool..... Its only a couple blocks away, we will check it out! I like the Menil for the free factor and some decent exhibits.

Thanks for the heads up.

I checked prices on his famous book "The Bike Riders" on ebay..I am talking many hundreds of dollars. At the gift shop they have a couple of post cards...I got wifey to buy me a couple....I am going to frame them for my work wall. Seriously, Danny Lyon is a genius, and he has our DNA.
