Bigger guy, having a hard time finding a jacket/vest.

Well, I'm a pretty big guy, and want to gear up properly. I am looking for a vest or jacket in about 3-4xl that will provide a bit of protection. I've hit up Cycle gear, and nothing they had would work.I liked a strength and steel (?) vest they had, but the sizing was like 3 sizes off. I am thinking a vest for the summer, but am open to options. Any bigger riders on here that can give me some pointers or a better place to shop?

So, maybe your height/weight would help us make recommendations for gear for you.

And Patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited is probably your best bet. That way if it does fit, you get gear, but if it doesn't you don't have to pay for it.

Yeah, I'll probably head down there this weekend. And I'm about 6'1 325. I usually am between 3 and 4x, but the stuff Ive found ran way too small.

Visit Patrick. I'm not quite your size, but am bigger and they did a good job of fitting me. It helps that they gaurantee fit too.

Secondly...a vest? Why? A vest offers next to ZERO protection. I wouldn't even bother.

Thirdly, you say they "run small." You do realize that its motorcycle gear and not a windbreaker right? They're supposed to be snug so they stay in place when you crash. Otherwise the jacket will ride up while you're sliding and not protect you. I've seen it happen.

honestly, I didn't think much about that in the sizing. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks. The vest was a last-ditch effort, and I was thinking about some type of armor in my (thin) jacket if I can't find a real riding jacket.

Visit Patrick, he will hook you up. If not you might try giving Tony a call @ House of paint.

Scrap the vest idea.

Honestly, the slide protection of the right fabric is more important than the padding. The padding helps, don't get me wrong, but a freeway speed wreck will SHRED a non-motorcycle jacket. Making padding it pretty pointless.

might have what you need

Check with Mancuso H-D Crossroads. They have some 3XL in stock and told me they could order 4XL and get it in pretty quick. And the Fulmer mesh stuff they sell is reasonable.
