Cool First time rider - brand new forum member!

Hi there,

I just recently moved to Texas (about a month or so) and finally decided to fulfill my dream of riding a sportbike. So here I am, brand new to this world of yours; hopefully I can make some friends here, and of course, hope I can get some help from all y'all experienced riders.

I will take the MSF course at awesomecycles next week (Apr. 12-13), then my license. After some debate with myself, I think I'm gonna go with the 250cc bike (thanks to RACER_X and his wonderful/detailed post on choosing your first bike). I'll start myself low, and "work" myself up the ladder. Someday, I'll drive a 1000; it's just not today, or anytime soon.

I'm actually looking for a bike right now (my budget is a bit tight, as close to 2k-2k5 as possible), so if anyone knows of a deal, please hook me up, really really appreciate that.

Welcome! Sounds like you're making some smart decisions too. Factor in gear into your budget as well.

If you can save up enough, I think the 08+ Ninja 250R's are sweet....

Thanks to all, you make me feel very welcome

I found this post on craigslist, but it looks like he bought bikes that maybe dropped/scratched and then fixed them himself, doesn't it? Do you think I should give it a test ride at least?

As long as the title is good, why not go check it out?
Your bike, especially your first, has a high probably of tipping over at some point, whether in the garage, in the driveway, gas station, etc....so don't worry about little scratches and things.

You could even have one of our sponsors (shops) check it out for you, or bring one of the members here along to check it out...

Welcome. There are plenty of bikes in that range. Just be patient, negotiate and keep your ears open.

I suggest you come out to a meet and ask all the questions you want about bikes. For your budget you shouldn't have a problem getting a bike

tks all again for your responses

@VegasKid: sure, I'd love to. I live in SE Houston (Clear Lake, Friendswood, Webster, Kemah, etc.), so if anyone lives nearby, we should meet up and hang out. Would love to get to know you guys and make some friends here.

@Senator: tks for your advice, I think I'm gonna give it a try. Is that your bike in the pic? looks very nice.

About my budget, actually I don't wanna spend more than 3k, both for the bike and all the gears. I think that's a reasonable budget for the beginner, isn't it?

I'm still very new to this world and after couple days in this forum, I realized gears range are indeed very wide. A difference in Scorpion and Shoei can very well cost me $200-300 more already.

I have a joe rocket mesh jacket with removable water proof liner i am about to post up for sale if you want first shot. Its all black and a medium. I am 6' 1" 190 lbs and I would say i'm on the very top of the fitment range. It retails for 170 and I will let it go for $70 so maybe you can save on some gear. Hit me up if you want it. 409-770-393six

Well done and well met. Let us know how Awesome goes...I took the basic course just over a year ago, and traveled a similar path. I went with the Ninja EX 500: no regrets, they are great starter bikes.

I'm still rocking my 250 and don't have any problems taking it everywhere I go. That black 250 is a great bike as compared to the other one that seller has Price isn't bad at all. Don't forget to factor in title, registration, inspection, and insurance. I can check out the bike too for you perhaps.
