help mikesrex select a bike

I've never owned a bike other than dirt bikes, but I have rode some friends' bikes around the block a couple years ago. Always wanted one but never really felt like it was time to play with bikes. I see I can buy some for a relatively cheap price. I'm hoping I don't kill myself on it lol

what I want out of a bike:

1. fast
2. mod friendly (cheap decent tuning solution such as being able to reflash the stock ECU)
3. strong motor and fuel system for turbo, also a relatively easy setup to physically fab up a turbo kit on
4. good value for the money (want to pay for good , not simply a popular name)
5. not sure what else to list because I don't know much about bikes...

thanks for the feedback

Mike

Hey Mike, glad you joined. STOKED you are looking at getting a bike!

I think I know your goal and that being said, I think a first gen Busa might work for you. Second would work too just more expensive and a little less after market for em.

Id love to sit down and have a a beer or whatever with you and talk more about bikes. I live right around the corner from ormand. Maybe we could do a mini meet?

For what hes wanting to do, yes. Mike builds high HP cars for the 1/4, 1/8th.

Im sure hes wanting a bike to do the same thing. However, I planned on talking more to him about street and road track in person.

that sounds good, next time I'm in town I'll see what's up. I like tinkering with stuff, so right now I'm leaning towards patiently waiting for a good opportunity to get a cheaper bike that I can turbo. i think it would be fun just to fab up the turbo stuff and tune it out.

J/k j/k. Your life sits in your right hand, and other idiot drivers.

My 2 cents would be a 600 the first 6mo.
well I could drive it stock before modding it. how "dangerous" is an older busa compared to some of the new 600's? I see some of the newer 600's are pretty quick.

I guess I don't see the point in getting a bike that is slower than some of my cars. I've lined up against quite a few bikes in mexico and beat all but one of them (the one that beat me, i gave him a 40 roll just for fun and spun...after I beat him from a 70 roll) I don't really want to road race a bike and certainly don't want to drive one every day in traffic. but it would be fun to build one and take it for a weekend cruise or occasional stroll down the 1320'

Because you've never ridden a motorcycle on the street. It's a completely different feeling. 1320 Only bike? Get whatever you want then.

Turbo anything for your first on the street???

Gen 1 Busa is a great platform for turbo. Gen 2 will not take the boost as well due to the Ti valves and weaker springs. Gen 1 takes dope (100 shot) pretty safely too with no motor work. If you are a smaller guy, a 1k is also a good idea.
