tell me if the final drive fails

I forgot what happened to your versys. Mine has been solid, and plenty fast.

Did anyone do a bunch of mods to it?

I have the 3 warranty on the beemer plus a 7 year service contract on it for repairs. lol, that final drive is covered for probably as long as I'll have the bike.

Versys was mine from odometer mile 0. An incompetent shop screwed up the valve adjustment (that's the only time anyone had ever touched my bike mechanically aside from me), but it's been fixed. In fact I just took it on a thousand mile trip over spring break, the Versys did fine at 80-90mph for about 10 hours straight. My buddy's KLR kind of ate it due to some kind of fluke, and is in for indefinite warranty repair with Kawasaki. No problems with the Versys though, it's great bike, I just wanted something a little less high strung past 70 mph, hanging out at ~7000 rpms all the time is a bit annoying on a parallel twin (at that is with a lower tooth rear sprocket). I-10 is a helluva long road and fast till New Mexico.

Plus I had been taking my Versys on mountain trails in some semi-offroad style riding. The 17" front wheel is a pain in soft ground at times, the 19" on the beemer should be a little more well behaved on softer stuff. It's a shame it's 100lbs more in weight though, oh well, it's worth it.

I don't know yet. I haven't heard of many issues with it. Mostly final drive and ABS problems. The electronic suspension adjustment is cool, basically just replaces dampener knobs and spanner wrench adjustment. I like it so far

I used to think the Versys was pretty big, especially compared to my XT225. The GS is like a car compared to sport bikes. I need to compare it to a Goldwing or a K1600 so I don't feel like I'm driving such a whale.

Yeah, the plastics does make it look wide. Wonder what all is behind it or is it there just to keep some aerodynamic form and cover the legs.

I watched a guy park his GS, dismount, and the GS falls on him pinning him between his big GS and my versys.

all he said was "I forgot to put the stand down"

I rode it down surfside today. I put it on the kick stand and it sunk a little bit, but only like an inch or so. When i came back to leave ida like to have never gotten it upright to mount again. I had to use the goldwing trick, haha. It's made of depleted uranium.
