Seriously, though - ride several bikes, sit on them, see how you like them. I really will let you ride mine, but it's not going to be like other SV's. I'm sure there are others here willing to give you a test ride, too.

Good luck!
Thanks Brandy, if I'm ever in bfe I'll take the extra 30 min drive to see about riding yours lol

But seriously, you live so far.

I like the Z1000 too. And it's definitely capable of the occasional track day.

If you're still aspiring to be a trackwhore, I'd say go check out some 600RR's or make the best decision and pick up a R6...

Out of the bikes I have had:
ZX9 $2500 - Amazing comfort, Speed was good but it was a carbourated bike. Yes I can't spell. I am assuming you don't want an older non-fuel injected bike but for the price, style, and comfort they are a great bike.

CBR1000 $3500 - Fun bike but it was nicknamed the black . It was fast but that thing was a tank. It was also uncomfortable for me. I wouldn't suggest it.

ZX636 $4000 - This bike was a ton of fun. Had plenty of power, was super light, great handling, and a blast. I think you had a dud and might consider giving it another chance.

ZX10 $4500 - This is easily the most fun and fastest bike I have ever had. It doesn't kill me on fuel and I pay $15 a month for liability insurance. At my age and with my record I can't afford full coverage. The power never fails to amaze me and anyone who sets on it or rides it always compliments the weight and handling. It feels like I am completely in tune with it. When I hit a corner it's almost like it reads my mind where it wants to go. I absolutely love this bike.

Now for the one other that I would consider that I haven't owned but have ridden.

Z1000 - They are great bikes and has many of the perks my 10 has so I wont go over that again and in your price range you can get one of the older ones that was either white with orange wheels or black with orange wheels. They look absolutely amazing.

My advice would be either the ZX10 or Z1000. You have plenty experience to own a 1000 and I think you will have a ton of fun. It's been said before that a 1000 is like crack. They are amazing bikes and never cease to amaze. What ever you get I hope it treats you better then your other one and people stop liking the Ivan edition bikes so much.
